The pragmatic version of the city in the German textbooks had been created for the encyclopedic purposes. Its aims were to show pupils what the city consisted of and how it functionedwithinvarious aspects of the urban life. In such a version the pictures made according to the textual descriptions and vice versa followed the texts.
