В данной статье представлена методология смыслового чтения. Chikhacheva Tula State Lev Tolstoy Pedagogical University (Tula, Russia) SCHOOL TEXTBOOK: SEMANTIC READING IN THE CONTEXT OF COGNITIVE AND SPIRITUAL AND MORAL IMPROVEMENT OF PERSONALITY Based on the methodology of the ‘theory of generations’, the article presents the peculiarities of personality formation of contemporary Alpha generation adolescents. According to this theory, the emergence of Alpha generation is a natural process of both the society and youth culture development associated with scientific and technological progress in the field of digitalization and IT technologies, and this progress drastically changes the cognitive characteristics of the individual, cultural and inter-communicative relations in the society. The authors highlight the attributes of clip thinking in this group of teenagers and show that this type of thinking is the opposite of linear thinking which allows systematically analyzing objective reality. In this regard, the philologists authoring team of the Tula State Lev Tolstoy Pedagogical University has developed a system of methodological support for teaching based on a special didactic concept of the functional literacy formation with semantic reading being the most important component of it. In the process of analyzing the concept of semantic reading, studying school experience in the context of the students’ cognitive abilities development associated with systematic work with informatively saturated voluminous creatively perceived text, the authors define the spiritual and moral (content) line of semantic reading. The peculiarity of the semantic reading manual developed by the staff of the Centre for Russian Language and Regional Linguistic Studies of the Tula State Lev Tolstoy Pedagogical University is that its content is based on the methodology of developing cognitive thinking in students of the Alpha generation in the discourse of spiritual and moral ideals. Based on this methodology, the semantic reading manual includes educational texts representing the best examples of Russian fiction, journalism, and popular science literature (including patriotic and local history).
